Ask 10 successful people “what do success mean to you” —and you will likely hear 10 different answers. Because the term “success” is subjective.

Richard Branson thinks success is happiness. For Warren Buffet, it is good relationships. For Maya Angelou, it is “liking yourself” And for Deepak Chopra, success is a continuous growth. (Infographic on this below)

Sadly, even then, the mainstream tells us otherwise. The society wants us to believe something else.
How Do You Define Success in Life

What Success Means in Life (According to Mainstream)

We’re fed that the idea of success is money, luxury home (and mansion), flying in first-class, staying in 5-star hotels, wearing fancy clothes, dining in expensive restaurants….

How do you picture an “ideal successful person”? What image do you see in your mind?

If it has to do anything with the above-mentioned examples, you’re a victim of the mainstream. You’ve been corrupted with interesting but blatantly misleading images like these… (Thanks to Instagram and Facebook)
What Does Success Means In Life
Not that being rich or doing extravagant things is bad. No. But the fact that it is synonymed with success is false.

It gives people a wrong benchmark to compare their life to a successful life. It makes them feel less appreciative of what they are achieving today.

How do you define success and happiness – the wrong answer

This false notion tells them that there is something big out there that they need to accomplish. And until and unless they do that, they won’t be qualified as a successful person—regardless how much they are loved, a great family they have, and a comfortable life they are living.

And given the majority of us connects happiness with success, we always find ourselves unhappy because we’re chasing an illusion of success that is fed to us by mainstream and conventional society—an ‘illusion of success’ that we might never get.

I will be happy when I succeed to buy a mansion in Europe. Once I succeed, maybe then I’ll be happy.

This habit – this pattern – makes us postpone our happiness, gratefulness, and contentment in life.

HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS DEFINE OUR HAPPINESS. This is why we must define success carefully – and not let the society and mainstream do it for us.

So… what does success mean really?

Make happiness your success

Say if you’re measuring your success with money, you’re going to work hard life-long to make more money so as to fit your definition of success. Agree?

Now with the same theory…

If you’re measuring success with your happiness, you’re going spend your whole life trying to be happy so as to fit your definition of success.

Right?

Admittedly, these things are intricately connected with each other. But you’ve got to find a thin line between them. Because this is what will guide how well, fulfilling or measurably do you live your life.

What Do Success Mean To Me

As clichéd as it may sound, success is a journey paralleled to your life that will continue along and end with your life.

It’s a journey that is filled with small and everyday-like achievements, as well as failures that leave us with nothing but big lessons.

(The idea of failure is a frame of mindset!)

You just have to walk on this journey with your pretty face and sweet smile, doing the best you can in every department of life.

Where you want to go and what do you want to do—they are your dreams, goals, and ambition. They are not a parameter of success.

You are alive. It’s the biggest reason to be happy about. And when you’re happy, you’re a success. EVERYTHING ELSE IS SECONDARY.
